Pacific Community Bowling 2009
Capital PHO in association with Pacific Health Service Wellington held a Pacific Community Bowling event in November 2009.

Three days of bowling were run over 3 weeks, which involved an exercise warm-up and a day of lawn bowls for Pacific elders which gave them the opportunity to get outside and exercise, socialise and have some fun! Sunscreen and water bottles were provided for the bowlers, and there was also a healthy lunch provided as well.

At the conclusion of the three bowling days, a Pacific Community Celebration was held at the PIC Church in Newtown where there was a prizegiving for the bowling, and an acknowledgement of all that we had achieved over the year as a Pacific community. The day was enjoyed by all and the Pacific community are looking forward to next year's event!

Information Sheet - Coping After a Tsunami
Le Va have developed an information sheet to help our Pacific communities who have been affected by the recent tsunami in Samoa, Tonga and American Samoa. The information sheet was developed in response the large number of enquiries to Le Va for information and assistance for their mental health and wellbeing. It is intended as a resource for those who need help, information and support for the acute stress that they may be experiencing due to the impact of the tsunami.

Psychological distress is a normal response to critical events such as a tsunami, and this sheet provides information about the stress you may be experiencing, positive ways of managing this stress, and where to seek further help if needed.

Please click here to download the information sheet in English or Samoan.
