Our Maori Health Team
Robina Wichman - Maori Outreach Nurse

Robina’s nursing role is to work with the 32 medical centres receiving nurse/doctor referrals to follow up our enrolled Maori whanau who are overdue with:
• Cervical smears
• Cardiovascular risk assessments (heart checks)
• Mammograms
• Diabetes annual reviews and testing
• Blood tests
• Immunisations for tamariki and kaumatua
• Health checks

Robina also assists whanau in an additional support/advocacy role to ensure Maori whanau are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle by:
• Providing transport to your medical appointments at the medical centre or hospital
• Networking with you and other organizations WINZ, Housing NZ some social support services

As an outreach mobile service Robina is able to meet with you where you are most comfortable.

Paul’s job is to make sure that Maori whanau are able to access primary healthcare and develop programmes, strategies, policies and resources that help Maori communities lead healthy lifestyles.
Our Services for Maori
Outreach Nursing
Outreach nurses help people who have difficulty accessing their GP or practice nurse for reasons such as cost, transport, language, and/or cultural barriers. Outreach nurses can provide assistance for GP visits, transport to appointments and medications. They also work with other agencies such as Work and Income and CYFS to ensure other social needs are being met.

Our Outreach Nurses are a mobile service, and they can meet with you where you are most comfortable to discuss your health issues. They can help you with:
• Cervical smears
• Cardiovascular risk assessments (heart checks)
• Mammograms
• Diabetes annual reviews and testing
• Blood tests
• Immunisations
• Health checks

Who can access this service?

All Maori patients who belong to one of Capital PHO’s 32 practices (or people who do not yet have a GP).

How do I access this service?

You can be referred by your GP or Social Service Provider, otherwise contact Robina Wichman on 978 4365.

HEHA on AIR Radio Project
Talofa lava, Kia orana, Malo e lelei, Ni sa bula vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Taloha ni, Fakatalofa atu, and warm Pacific greetings!

The HEHA on AIR project is a programme that encourages Maori and Pacific communities to get active and eat a healthy diet. HEHA stands for Healthy Eating, Healthy Action, and each week we bring you interviews, information, tips and music to get you moving and eating better.

HEHA on AIR programmes, tips and interviews are played on Access Radio (Thursdays from 2-3pm), Niu FM, Atiawa Toa FM, and Hollah FM (Thursdays from 3-4pm).

HEHA on AIR is brought to you by Capital and Coast District Health Board and Hutt Valley District Health Board, Regional Public Health, Pacific Health Service Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington, Sport Wellington, Capital PHO, and the Porirua City Council.
